I Bagnetti SECONDA METÀ DEL XVIII SECOLO Storico giardino Garzoni
L’edificio, ricavato nel sito dove si trovava una chiesa-romitorio risalente alla fase seicentesca del giardino, sigla il cambiamento di scena e il significato stesso della salita verso la vetta del colle, dal sacro al profano.
I bagnetti, con il loro apparato rococò, portano al limite il senso del teatro, come espressione delle frivolezze del vecchio mondo aristocratico, facendo del bagno un momento di spettacolo, accompagnato dalla musica che emanava la cantoria in alto. A dispetto dell’aspetto rustico dell’edificio esterno, con il cupolino sulla copertura, l’interno crea lo stesso effetto sorpresa che percorre tutti gli episodi del giardino, con insolite inventive stilistiche e decorative. Le vasche a pavimento, lo spogliatoio, e due salottini “per il riposo” che erano arredati alla turca “con graziosi divani e i tabouret ancora rivestiti di sete pallide e sbiadite” (LATHAM, PHILLIPPS 1905), restituiscono la ritualità del bagno accompagnata dalla musica come occasione festosa e galante.

The Baths SECOND HALF OF THE 18TH CENTURY Historic Garzoni Garden
The building, carved out of the site of a hermitage, dating from the seventeenth-century phase of the garden, seals the change of scene and the very meaning of the ascent to the hilltop, from the sacred to the profane.
The baths, with their Rococo apparatus, take the sense of theater to the limit, as an expression of the frivolities of the old aristocratic world, making the bath a moment of spectacle, accompanied by the music that came from the chancel located at the top of the room. In contrast to the rustic appearance of the outside building, with the dome on the roof, the interior creates the same surprise effect that runs through all the episodes of the garden, with unusual stylistic and decorative inventions. The baths on the floor, the dressing room, and two small sitting rooms “for resting,” which were furnished in the Turkish style “with pretty couches and the tabourets still covered with pale and faded silks” (LATHAM, PHILLIPPS 1905), restore the ritual of bathing accompanied by music as a festive and gallant occasion.
