Viale degli Agrumi Storico giardino Garzoni
“Viale con spalliere d’Agrumi dove principia la scala” si legge nel catasto del 1680, documentando l’area ancora oggi riservata alla coltivazione dei Citrus che, nel giardino seicentesco assumono un ruolo fondamentale, come testimonia anche il trattato Hesperides di Io. Baptistae Ferrarii Senensis (1646). Lungo il bordo dell’aiola in adiacenza al muro si conserva la canaletta di pietra a cielo aperto per l’irrigazione, scandita da dadi sempre in pietra destinati ad alloggiare i supporti per proteggere le piante dal freddo.
Il viale sovrasta il primo terrazzamento che nel terrilogio del 1680 è indicato come “Viale che conduce a San Martino con muri e scale” che tra fine Ottocento e primi del Novecento viene arricchito di vari esemplari di palmacee e di piante in vaso.

Avenue of Citrus Trees Historic Garzoni Garden
“Viale con spalliere d’Agrumi dove principia la scala” (Avenue with Citrus espaliers where the staircase begins) reads in the land register of 1680, documenting the area still reserved for the cultivation of Citrus trees, which, in the seventeenth-century garden, assume a fundamental role, as also testified by the treatise Hesperides by Io. Baptistae Ferrarii Senensis (1646). Along the edge of the flowerbed adjacent to the wall is preserved the open-air stone gutter for irrigation, punctuated by stone blocks also intended to house supports to protect the plants from the cold.
The avenue overlooks the first terracing, which in the 1680 terrilogy is indicated as “Viale che conduce a San Martino con muri e scale” (Avenue leading to San Martino with walls and stairs) that between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was enriched with various specimens of palm trees and potted plants.
